Keeping your small animal calm during the Firework season
Small animals are known to be one of the groups of animals affected by the firework season. There are a small number of things you could do to help your small animal through the firework season. Some of these include;
- Outside cages
Partly covering any outside cages and pens with blankets so an area is soundproofed and hidden. Allow another area for the animals to look out of. We suggest a fleecy blanket, please see below;

Turning the cages to face a wall or fence can also help. If you are able to bring the hutch or pen inside, this could also benefit the small animal more. There are some options of pens below;
Ensuring that they have a place inside can help lower stress levels. However, this should be done gradually so plan ahead.
Some small animals such as Hamsters and Gerbils like to burrow when they get fearful. Providing plenty of bedding can allow your small animal to burrow and hide better. Some of the bedding we provide for this include;
Cleaning out their cage and providing plenty of bedding can help with stimulating their instinctual behaviors and help them burrow to help them hide.
Providing your small animal with new toys, such as climbing frames and houses can help stimulate their brains and keep them busy. This helping more with them being scared or startled by the loud noises.
